36 Organizations and 114 Individuals Call on Shapiro to Act on Climate

The rapidly intensifying climate crisis barely got a mention in Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget address. When it was mentioned, it was in the context of talking up an energy plan that relies on continued and possibly expanded fossil fuel development.

In response, No False Climate Solutions PA submitted a letter signed by 36 organizations and 114 individuals calling on the governor to be the climate leader we need. The letter was written after the election of an unabashed climate denier in November and revised after the barrage of executive orders issued on Day 1 of the Trump administration. Shapiro’s announcement last week of his Lightning Plan only added to the urgency of the signers’ message.

“Mischaracterizing an energy plan that supports ongoing fossil-fuel development is not just unethical, it’s dangerous. Pennsylvanians need to know that Shapiro’s plans to export energy and support Carbon Capture and Storage, hydrogen, and petrochemicals translate into more drilling and fracking, more climate chaos, and more harm done to Pennsylvanians health, safety, quality of life, and finances,” said Karen Feridun, Co-founder of No False Climate Solutions PA. “Governor Shapiro can and must change course and become the climate leader this unprecedented collision of political and climate crises demands.”
